Stargate

The Eur Water Center of Vigna Murata, characterized by its imposing piezometric tower, can be considered a masterpiece of design, and is one of the most futuristic structures of the capital. The work, built in 1989 by the architect Francesco Palpacelli, with its 120 meters in height is the fifth highest architectural structure in Rome. It is very special because the structure and aesthetics coincide and the function of the various components is not hidden, for example the pipes are exposed and colored to indicate their function (red at the entrance, blue at the exit). The Eur’s Water Centre was conceived as part of a larger project: a water science park, which was later abandoned. Every element of the structure has been imagined to be accessible to the public: the elevator and the stairs enclosed in the pylons lead in a panoramic terrace where a cafeteria should have been built. Unfortunately, with the cancellation of the park project, the premises of the water center have never seen the public.
