There’s something magical about the half-hour before and after sunrise on the Shafston Reach of the Brisbane River, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

You’ll see the Story Bridge still lit against the deep blue hour, the glass of the Dockside Apartments starting to catch the first glow, and the Dockside Marina boats barely rocking. From there, we track along the New Farm Riverwalk just as the city’s early runners and dog walkers appear.

The history of Dockside Brisbane is deeply intertwined with the maritime heritage of the Brisbane River. The area has been a hub for shipbuilding and repair since the 19th century, with the former Evan Deakins Dry Dock being a significant landmark. The site was originally constructed for shipwright Hugh Moar in 1884 and later became the focus of shipbuilding and repair activities. The dockyard sat idle until the late 1980s, but the area's transformation into a residential haven began, leading to the development of high-rise apartments like Dockside.

Today, Dockside offers a blend of modern highrise apartments and heritage Queenslander homes, with river views and walkable amenities.

Dockside Marina provides modern marina facility for National and International yachts.

The suburb's name, Kangaroo Point, is said to come from the kangaroos that once roamed the area before development began.

The Brisbane Riverwalk is one of the city's absolute must do’s. It is a "water highway" for pedestrians and cyclists jutting out along the most scenic tract of Brisbane river between New Farm to the Howard St Wharves and on to the Brisbane CBD. This permanent fixture was built to replace Brisbane's first floating riverwalk - a visionary yet doomed project that was all but swept away in the 2011 floods, when it was shown to be no match for the might of a swollen raging Brisbane river.

The Story Bridge is an iconic landmark in Brisbane, representing both the city's rich history and its engineering prowess.

The bridge is a heritage-listed steel cantilever bridge in Brisbane, Australia, known for its historical significance, engineering marvel, and stunning views of the Brisbane River.

The Story Bridge spans the Brisbane River, connecting the northern suburb of Fortitude Valley to the southern suburb of Kangaroo Point. It is the longest cantilever bridge in Australia, measuring 282 meters in length, and was officially opened on July 6, 1940.
