2020 Drone Videos of the Week: Episode 2

Every week, our team reviews every video uploaded to the site to pick the Top 5 videos.  Then, we name our favorite as our Drone Video of the Week and send that drone pilot $250.  (The winning video is also then a contender for Drone Video of the Month.) Epic indeed. That is definitely the most appropriate adjective to describe this DVOW Finalist piece from Iceland by new AirVuz contributor Gaui H Pic. Some of the locations featured in the video include Kirkjufell Mountain on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula west of Reykjavik (:27), th volcanic craters around Lake Blahylur (:35), a massive glacier field (1:05), and the great rock arch of Dyrhólaey near the town of Vik (1:20).  You'll also see some of the country's famous waterfalls, its black sand beaches, and much more.  

2019 was clearly a banner year for media production company Chico Franleno.  As seen in this DVOW nominated reel, they captured both familiar travel destinations like Cinque Terre in Italy and the stunning Alps in both France and Switzerland, as well as quiet moments in remarkably picturesque spots like Ha Long Bay in Vietnam, and the Tegalalang Rice Terraces and Nusa Penida in Bali, Indonesia.  Flying in these scenic locations gave them access to incredible views and revealed the inspirational side to their global adventures.

Top AirVuz contributor Moadh_Bukhash put together this marvelous 4k DVOW Finalist drone video from the storied province of Phuket in Southern Thailand. Consisting of one main island (Thailand's largest) and nearly three dozen smaller satellites, it's Thailand's smallest province but also one of its most well known.  Having recovered by the devastation suffered by its western coast on the Andaman Sea from the great Tsunami of 2004, Phuket remains one of the world's most sought-after beach destinations.  

This outstanding 2019 highlight reel from chill_side was picked as a Drone Video of the Week Finalist in early 2020.  Most of the footage is from Russia, with a few shots from neighboring Finland and Georgia.  Some of the highlights include the Caucasus Mountains (around the :30 mark); St. Isaacs Cathedral in St. Petersburg (1:00), the Moscow City skyscraper district (1:15), the Ruskeala Train in the Karelia oblast, north of St. Petersburg (1:30);  the giant Soviet star atop the Moscow State University building (2:00); and more.  

Top AirVuz contributor and pilot videobros was a winner at the second annual Drone Video Awards with his epic piece "Land of the Mayas".  In this production, which was picked as a DVOW Finalist in January, 2020, he used a very different backdrop: the highlands of south central Iceland.  The video captures an epic four day hike along the Landmannalaugar trek, which runs between the hot springs area around Landmannalaugar to the glacier-surrounded mountain ridge of Þórsmörk.
