FPV Podracing Tatooine

nikofilmz...

When you've got a flying buddy like @carterfilmz and a setting like Goblin Valley State Park in Utah as your playground, you're going to do what drone pilot nikofilmz did: take in an epic air-to-air chase that reminds us all of some Star Wars podracing through Tatooine.  Watch this fun product of their racing quads as these two pilots chase each other around the otherworldly setting. The long range flights made for some sweet footage, and since nikofilmz shared it, we added him as an FPV Pilot to Watch on AirVuz in April 2020.

In this special AirVuz Originals production, a group of FPV pilots head to the Redwood Forests of California to re-create a famous movie scene using racing drones.  One of the most memorable scenes from the 1983 Star Wars film Return of the Jedi (the third to be released but officially Star Wars VI) was the speeder bike chase scene on the planet Endor.  In this video, the racing drones are decked out to look like speeder bikes, and the "race" is held in the California's Redwood Forest, the same location where the movie was filmed.

Name a better way to start your day than with a few beach laps with your first person view (FPV) racing quad.  Wait, we've got one.  How about taking a few laps flying FPV with your buddy, formation style?!   This air-to-air action, brought to you by FPV pilot LonnoFPV, looks like one heck of a time. He’ll take on the wide open beach early in the day as the waves gently lap on to shore. The proximity work he’ll do with the quad he’s chasing is pretty impressive.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in July of 2019.

Cloudsurfing Formation Flying

Cloud Surfing the Sierra Nevadas

nikofilmz...

Ok...watch this fantastic 29 seconds of awesomeness which got top AirVuz content creator and first person view (FPV) pilot Nikofilmz on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in March, 2020.   Our contributor and his flying buddy Carter fly in formation high above the Sierra Nevadas in Sequoia National Park.  Keeping another quad "in frame" is not easy, and far less so when you're surfing California's gigantic mountains.  The view of the lead quad makes for some very impressive visuals, demonstrating the incredible creative potential of top FPV pilots.

Flying first person view (FPV) isn't easy, and chasing another quad ("formation flying") is tougher still.  That's why, when you see quad chasing, it tends to be short clips; keeping that leading quad in view for any length of time takes a great deal of skill.  That's what makes this video by contributor and FPV pilot JAB1a so amazing; in one continuous shot, you get the perspective from a chase quad all the way out to a tiny island and back; the leading quad is in frame virtually the entire time.

Formation Flying on Mt. Whitney

FPV Filmz - High Mountain Proximity

carterfilm...

First-person view (FPV) mountain surfing requires considerable piloting skills; there is generally no recovering a racing quad that crashes cruising along a mountain ridge.  Flying "in formation", with one quad chasing another, ups the difficulty and the stakes even further.  That's what makes this piece from FPV Filmz so incredible.  The video features footage from two very skilled FPV pilots flying in tandem on California's Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States.

Chasing Smoke over Moab

Smoke Chase in MOAB

WestPsydeF...

Talented first person view (FPV) quad pilot WestPsydeFPV brings us this fantastic air-to-air quad-chasing scene over the rocks of Moab, Utah.  To further enhance the already compelling visuals, the lead quad is carrying a smoke-bomb, giving the chase   quad a very colorful scene in its camera frame.  After he ditches quad #2, he really floats and flows over the rock face, making the viewer feel like they're one with the birds.  For its creativity, this video earned our contributor a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in March, 2019.

Backwards-Facing Chase Scene

EPIC CHASING | TEAM FARINS | FPV CINEMATIC

Team Farin...

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot Team Farins put together this fantastic "formation flying" piece from the beaches of Sinaloa in northwestern Mexico.  While most formation flying videos - in which one FPV quad chases and films another - are from the perspective of the chasing quad, this one does the reverse - the perspective is from a backwards-facing HD camera on the lead drone.  This flight and edit earned our contributor a spot on the AirVuz FPV Pilots to Watch list in March, 2019.

Formation Flying through the Trees

Proximity Chasing | TEAM FARINS

Team Farin...

Flying a first person view (FPV) mini-quad at high speed through trees is no easy task, and many a quad has been lost in these settings.  How about this for a twist on the standard "tree proximity" FPV sub-genre: chasing another quad through the woods(!).  That's exactly what top AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot Team Farins does in this piece.  It's vaguely reminiscent of the famous video shot by a French team in the (long ago) year of 2014, a video which was hugely influential in launching the first generation of FPV pilots.

FPV Formation Flying San Diego Coastline

nikofilmz...

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot nikofilmz has carved out a niche in the very demanding art of formation flight - essentially, one FPV mini-quad chasing another.  It's extremely difficult to pull off even in wide open spaces with no obstacles - even at a relatively close following distance, that lead quad is TINY in the FPV goggles.  In this amazing video, he brings us a chase scene along a much more challenging (as well as cinematic) course - along the beach in San Diego, California.

Chasing through the Austrian Countryside

Cold Chase. FPV

littlewing...

Here's a great example of first person view (FPV) "formation flight" - footage of a quad chasing another quad - by top AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot littlewing fpv was able to get some epic air-to-air footage chasing another racing quad through some beautiful hilly scenery in Austria.  Keeping what looks like a tiny "target" in frame requires a great deal of flying skill, and he's able to do it for amazingly long stretches.  The cinematic quality of the piece is further enhanced by post-production stabilization using ReelSteady.

If you’ve ever had dreams of flying near a Star Wars ship, then take a look. Accomplished pilot nurkfpv had the opportunity to work with the team at FliteTest where he checked out and tracked their new, mini Millennium Falcom. The starship from the Star Wars franchise has a long history, but is mostly known as the home of Han Solo and his faithful Wookie first mate, Chewbacca. Nurkfpv uses his tracking skills to follow the mini Falcon through a park, earning him a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in December, 2019.

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot SFPV put together this epic FPV "re-enactment" of the famous Speeder Bike chase scene in the Revenge of the Jedi installment of the Star Wars movie series.  The video was shot in California's Redwood Forest, which "played the role" of Planet Endor in the movie.  The video picks up on an AirVuz production in late 2015, in which SFPV participated and flew.  Featuring some epic "formation flying" footage, this video earned SFPV a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list.

DT S1E3: Pod Racing

Drone Trip...

Drone Trippin' was an AirVuz Original production that followed the antics of a group of the USA's top first person view (FPV) drone pilots.  In the first season, which was produced in between the Drone Nationals event in New York and the Drone Worlds in Hawaii, the crew headed out into the American West with an RV full of FPV equipment.  One of the highlights of the trip was this episode, in which the crew tried to re-create the famous "pod racing" scene of Star Wars lore with highly modified racing quads.

Formation Flying through a Shipyard

FPV Formation Through an Abandoned Shipyard

nikofilmz...

In this video, top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot nikofilms takes us on an epic FPV ride through an abandoned shipyard. This is no "ordinary bando" though: it's an epic chase scene as he plays "follow the leader" through some very tricky obstacles.  The video features some of the longest continuous formation flying shots we've seen, some of which get VERY close.  It's testament to his considerable piloting skills that he's able to keep the "target" in frame as the two quads thread their way through the site.

Waterfall Formation Flying

Formation Flying over Shoshone Falls

nikofilmz...

Flying over a waterfall with a first person view (FPV) mini-drone takes some serious piloting skill; there's little room for error and a crash is tantamount to a loss.  How about flying in formation over a waterfall - ie, chasing another quad?  This takes us into the realm of highly skilled and experienced FPV pilots.  Like top AirVuz contributor nikofilmz.  He chased a fellow FPV pilot over the Shoshone Falls on the Snake River in the USA state of Idaho.  Watch how he is able to stick to the lead quad flying through the mist!

Destination Unknown | FLUX and KerniFPV Race Drone Formation

KerniFPV...

Sometimes the most inconvenient and unknown destinations can create the most memorable videos. The trip FPV pilot KerniFPV took was turned upside down when the weather would not cooperate, sending only rain and clouds when all they needed was a few hours of sun. However, the dense fog covering the mountains and littering the forest floor makes for a really cool, eerie piece. The air-to-air, tracking action just adds to the overall feeling of being followed into the unknown.  This was an FPV Pilots to Watch list pick for August, 2019.

Cinewhooping a Motel near the US/Mexico Border

nikofilmz...

Get a rare "quad to quad" view of a cinewhoop style drone, compliments of AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot fpvfilmz.  While these small ducted fan micro-drones have taken the FPV world by storm in the past couple of years, many people still don't know what they look like.  In this piece, you'll get some "up close and personal" views of one as the two quads film a desert hotel near the US/Mexican border.  For his efforts, fpvfilmz was awarded with a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in August, 2020.
