Also known as Formosa, the Southeast Asian island nation of Taiwan has been an independent country since 1949. It was established by the remnants of the leadership of Nationalist China following the culmination of the Communist Revolution on the mainland. Highly urbanized, Taiwan's northern end is anchored by the great capital of Taipei, one of the great cities of Asia and home to one of the world's tallest skyscrapers, as well as numerous consirable cities on its eastern and western coasts. It's covered by a mountain range which runs down much of the eastern part of the island and is the location or source of numerous waterfalls as well as important Buddhist monasteries and temples. Here is a collection of drone videos from this important island country, once known as Formosa. Aerial photo: "Anping" by AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Negraof.

In this video, top contributor and pilot NAVA used a DJI Phantom 4 Professional drone to give us an aerial tour of the island, including some relatively unknown yet spectacular spots far from the skyscrapers of Taipei.

Just east of the southern coast of Taiwan lies Orchid Island. The island covers about 45 square lm (around 17 square mi.). What makes Orchid Island most unusual is its native inhabitants, the Tao, who came to the island from the Philippines across the Luzon Strait in the 13th century. The small island is almost entirely mountainous, with peaks as high as 400 meters (1.3k ft). Contributor Jakublin used a drone to create a stunning aerial video of this small but spectacular rock of an island.
