Top Bird's Eye Views of Southeastern Europe

For a two minute+ tour of some of the most beautiful spots in Croatia, it's hard to beat this video by contributor Hausmannvisuals.  Using a drone, he gives us some epic aerial shots of Split, Dubrovnik, Pelješac, Sreser, Ston, and other spots in this beautiful Southeast European country.  As you take in the beauty of the Adriatic waters, the mountain fortresses, and the medieval towns, you will appreciate why Croatia has been a favored shooting location for HBO's blockbuster Game of Thrones series. 

Contributor And911 created this brilliant drone video of Montenegro in connection with a travel documentary film.  The videos provides a breathtaking aerial views of this magnificent mountainous land on the coast of the Adriatic Sea, and includes breathtaking footage of the coast, the interior mountain range known as the Dinaric Alps, and the town of Kotor, va ery old yet spectacularly well-preserved town on the Bay of Kotor which is one of the top tourist attraction in the entire Balkan region.

Bosnia Herzegovina is generally considered to be the most culturally distinctive of the countries which emerged after Yugoslavia tragically collapsed into a long and bloody civil war in the 1990's.  In this video, top AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Hamza Mujtaba takes us on an aerial tour of this magnificent land, Europe's only Muslim-majority country.  Using his DJI Mavic Pro drone, he gives us bird's eye views of the country, including spectacular shots of Mostar, Sarajevo, Bjelasnica, Borovcici, and Kravice Falls.

Top contributor Minglam put together this awesome aerial tour of the two most well-known areas of the Balkan nation of Macedonia.  The first part of the video is shot around Lake Ohrid, the large lake which forms part of the border with Albania to the west.  The lake is not only spectacularly beautiful but it's dotted with many sites of cultural interest, also shown in the video.  The film then transitions to Skopje, Macedonia's capital city, which lies in a valley in the northern part of the country.

Take an aerial tour of Albania in this excellent travel video from Gabika Travel, which was shot with a DJI Mavic Pro drone.  The video provides bird's eye views of some of the most well known spots in this small Balkan country on the Adriatic Sea.  Some of the highlights include shots of Berat (an important cultural center), Saranda (a beach town on the southern coast), Tirana (the Albanian capital), Butrint (an ancient city on the Adriatic), and Ksamil (one of the main towns of the Albanian Riviera).

Contributor tihomirvitkov created this stunning aerial collage of some of the natural scenery of Bulgaria, one of the least well known yet most beautiful countries of Europe.  The country offers some of the most diverse set of landscapes in the world, ranging from towering mountains and gigantic rock formations to rolling plains to the serene coastline on the Black Sea.  The video features a nice sampling of all of the above, with an added bonus of having been filmed during the Fall color season.  

Top contributor and pilot Escapeaway created this beautiful drone video following a trip to Serbia, a Southeast European country which regained its independence following the dissolution of Yugoslavia in the 1990's.  The video shows the astounding natural scenery of this country on the Balkan Peninsula in Southeastern Europe.  Most of the video was shot in the southern, more mountainous part of the country, along the Uvac River.  The highlight is some spectacular bird's eye views of the Uvac Gorge.  

Romania is home to some of the most spectacular natural and man-made scenery in all of Europe.  Top content creators and drone pilots Brothers M treat us to a stunning aerial tour of this Southeastern European land, much of which is covered in mountains.  The video begins with an epic shot descending through clouds, and features aerial footage of the Carpathian Mountains, the Black Sea, Heroes' Cross on Caraiman Peak, wind farms, and many more of the top sights in this fascinating Southeast European country.

The geography of Romania is largely defined by the Carpathian Mountains.  The great range dominates the landscape of the northern and central parts of the country, defining the boundaries of the region of Transylvania.  The various sub-ranges of the Carpathians in Romania also offer some of Europe's most captivating alpine scenery.  To see what we mean, check out this fantastic drone video of the Romanian Carpathians by top AirVuz contributor and pilot Eaglewood Pictures.  This video won Drone Video of the Week in October 2020.

Avid traveler and content creator iDrone Aerials, gives us a cinematic HD view of the magnificent Croatian seaport city of Dubrovnik on the Adriatic Sea.  This well-preserved 11th-century city on the Dalmatian Coast has gotten an enormous boost in recent years after it was chosen as a filming location for seasons 2-8 of HBO's hit show "Game of Thrones" (Dubrovnik is the fictional King's Landing, the capital city of Westeros.) This video was a finalist in the Game of Drones category for the 2nd Annual Drone Video Awards.

Zadar and Split both lie on the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia, on the Adriatic Sea.  Both feature stunning beaches, Roman and Venetian ruins, and architecture spanning centuries.  The allure of Split led to it being chosen as a filming location for HBO's Game of Thrones series; the character Daenerys Targaryen kept her dragons here.  Top contributor Hamza Mujtaba was nominated for the 2017 AirVuz Drone Video Awards in the Cities category for this amazing aerial video featuring these two beautiful cities.

For an overview tour of the Southeast European nation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it's hard to beat this aerial compilation by contributor Mywaytotravel.  Shot with a DJI Mavic Pro drone, the video takes us over most of the well known sights of this ancient Balkan land, which was once part of the Yugoslav Federation.  Covering both the natural beauty of the country as well as its historical and cultural treasures, you'll see some great bird's eye views of Mostar, Sarajevo, Kravice waterfalls, Pocitelj, Konjic, and Buna.  

Lake Ohrid is one of the most spectacular bits of natural scenery in the Balkans.  One of the largest lakes in the region, it forms part of the border between Macedonia and Albania.  Lake Ohrid is one of a handful of UNESCO World Heritage sites to be designated as both a natural and cultural site.  In this video, top contributor and drone pilot Uncle Damn gives us a bird's eye view of the area around the city of Ohrid on the lake's northeastern shore, one of the most popular destinations on this deep, crystal blue lake.

Contributor Jus Medic created this spectacular video of the world-class sailing scene off the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia, which is essentially the southern portion of the country's coastline along the Adriatic Sea.  The video provides a bird's eye view of what is considered to be some of the finest recreational sailing waters anywhere in the world, a place of turquoise blue waters, gentle breezes, and many ports and beaches.  It includes footage of the islands of Hvar, Solta, Brac, Salmatia, and more.  

Contributor Alessandro created this beautiful 4k drone video record of a trip to Montenegro and Croatia, two members of the now-dissolved Yugoslav Federation.  The video features footage from the following locations: Sibenik, a port town on Croatia's Central Dalmatian Coast; Budva, a town in the middle of Montenegro's (Adriatic Sea) coast; the Croatian city of Dubrovnik; Makarska, which lies a bit north of Dubrovnik; the Croatian capital city of Zadar; and Rab, a beautiful town on Croatia's northern Adriatic coast.  

First Production created this beautiful drone video of the Serbian capital city Belgrade, decked out for the Christmas holiday.  The video was shot on a DJI Inspire drone with a Zenmuse X5 camera.  Belgrade is the largest city in Serbia by good measure, and is the last (ie downtream) of the great cities on the Danube River, which runs through Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest before it Belgrade en route to the Black Sea.  With a metropolitan population of about 1.7 million as of 2019, it's one of the larger cities in Southeastern Europe.

The Southeast European country of Montenegro has seen fairly dramatic growth in tourism in recent years. The rugged mountains, medieval villages and beaches along the Adriatic Sea make it an obvious choice for travelers looking to take in all coastal Europe has to offer. Contributor and DVOW winner HikeTheWorld, shows us the Top 10 destinations in Montenegro by drone in this stunning video. Locations featured in the video include the Bay of Kotor, Tara Canyon, and Budva’s walled Old Town, and more.

For his first upload to AirVuz, contributor Theo Silkstone created this beautiful drone tour of the Southeast European nation of Montenegro.  Watch it to see aerial views of the following locations: Durmitor National Park in the country's mountainous northwest; the fortified port of Kotor on the eponymously named bay; the Adriatic islands of Ada Bojana and tiny Sveti Stefan; and Lake Skadar, the regions largest lake, across which lies the fellow Balkan country of Albania. Take an aerial tour of the lands of the former Yugoslav Federation in this excellent piece by Minglam.  Here are the locations featured, in order of appearance: Split, the largest city on Croatia's Dalmatian Coast; the nearby town of Dubrovnik; Lake Jablanica in Bosnia and Herzegovina; Bosnia's famed Mostar Bridge; Slovenia's Lake Bled; Croatia's Plitvice Lakes; the Montenegran towns of Budva, on the Adriatic Sea, and Kotor on the Bay of Kotor; the town of Ohrid in Macedonia; and the Macedonian capital city of Skopje.

The subject of this drone video by ante de la creme is one of the world's most famous bridges - Stari Most (translated as "Old Bridge") in the town of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The stone arch bridge over the Neretva River is a modest 29 meters (about 130 feet) but when it was completed in the mid-16th century it was considered a monumental structure. During the Yugoslav Civil War, the bridge was hit by dozen of shells and virtually destroyed; it was later carefully reconstructed. This video was a DVOW finalist in October, 2019. 

Top content creator dronesantana007 produced this stunning drone video record of a trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina in Southeastern Europe. The video opens with an epic shot of the Stari Most bridge in Mostar, which was considered one of the great technological achievements of Medieval Europe.  Starting at about 2:25, there is some great footage of the capital city Sarajevo. Starting at 3:30, there's an epic reveal of Kravice Falls, one of the country's most famous waterfalls.  This video was a Drone Video of the Week winner in November, 2019.  

Croatia has quickly become one of the top tourist destinations in Europe.  Formerly a part of Yugoslavia, it has been a hot spot for vacationers, in no small part due to the popular HBO show “Game of Thrones” which has prominently featured a number of Croatian locations. DVOW nominee and Drone plot TAT-VT took this spectacular drone travel video while visiting Croatia that includes shots of many of the walled, medieval towns, Plitvice Lakes National Park waterfalls, and the incredible waters of the Adriatic Sea. 

Jonhy Kondakjian Photos created this beautiful drone video from a trip to some of the most well-known spots on Croatia's northern coastline, which includes footage from the following locations: Vrbnik (on the island of Krka); Rijeka (Croatia's #3 city, which lies at the head of Kvarner Bay); the Roman arena in Pula, in the southwestern part of the Istrian Peninsula;  Premantura, a village at the base of Cape Kemanjak, at the southern tip of Istria; and Rovinj, on the western side of Istria.

The Adriatic Coast continues to be a popular tourism destination, especially with the backpacking type who enjoy moving from spot to spot to enjoy a multifacted vacation. AirVuz contributor Mercurybackpackers shared their journey through Bosnia and Croatia, where they enjoyed time within the walls of Dubrovnik, which served as King's Landing throughout Seasons 2-8 of the popular Game of Thrones, as well as on Lokrum Island. This charming island, off the shore of Dubronik, served as Qarth in Season 2.

Dobrogea is a region in the eastern part of Romania, where the mighty Danube River empties into the Black Sea.  Top contributor and pilot The Brothers M used a drone to create an unforgettable aerial tour of of this stunning region.  Despite the lack of mountains characteristic of other regions in Romania, you will be amazed by the stunning coastline, incredible shots of migratory birds, ship and bridge traffic on the Danube River, and bird's eye views of some of Romania's many wind turbines.  

The heart of Bulgaria's Black Sea resort country is along the lower part of the coastline, south of the city of Burgas.  During Cold War times, when Bulgaria was part of the Warsaw Pact, this area became known as the Red Riviera in reference to its popularity with the Communist elite of the USSR and its satellites.  In these far different times, the heart of the old Red Riviera is on aerial display in this drone video by lafar, which features footage from the following spots: Kiten, Lozenets, Sozopol, Dyuni (Dune), and the cape of Maslen Point.

Check out this fantastic wintertime aerial tour of the Bulgarian town of Nessebar, compliments of top AirVuz contributor and DVOW finalist Mattcoq. Situated on the country's Black Sea coastline in the province of Burgas, Nessebar is sometimes called the Pearl of the Black Sea (a nickname shared by the Ukrainian city of Odessa). Nessebar is split into two parts, which are connected by a man-made isthmus. Settled since the second millennium BC, the city played an important role in the affairs of the western Black Sea region for centuries.  

Neamț County is one of the core counties of Romania's Moldavia region, in the northeastern part of the country. In this drone video by Nelstill, you'll get bird's-eye views of some of the top sights of the county, including: Bicaz Dam, Lake Pangarati, Agapia Place, Agapia Monastery, the fortress of Neamt, Cuejdel Lake, Neamt Monastery, the Ceahlău Massif, Durau Monastery, Lake Izvorul Muntelui, the Gorges of Mugicelu, the national reservation at Sugau Keys, and the Bicaz Canyon. This video won DVOW in November 2019.

One of the treasures of Kotor Bay in the Balkan nation of Montenegro is the town of Perast.  It lies on the northern side of the inner part of the bay, which is an inlet of the Adriatic Sea.  Initially settled during the Neolithic period, the town of Perast was founded by Ilyrians during the Antiquity.  Perast was heavily fortified during the centuries when most of the Adratic Sea was controlled by Venice.  You can see the magnificently well preserved town from above in this DVOW Finalist video by Beautiful Montenegro.

Contributor and drone pilot Silvadesignco created this beautiful drone videos from the mountains of Kosovo, a semi-sovereign state in Southeastern Europe.  The area filmed was around the town of Bogë in the Albanian Alps (sometimes called the Prokletije) mountains in the western part of Kosovo.  Kosovo broke away from Serbia in the late 1990's, prompting a NATO intervention against Serbian forces; since that time, it's been recognized by most of the world as an independent country. 

Check out this beautiful 4k video from one of Albania's most well-known mountains, compliments of AirVuz contributor duli kasmi.  Shot using a combination of drone and ground camera footage, the video covers a hike to the top of Dajti Mountain.  Situated on the northeastern outskirts of the city of Tirana, the mountain is part the Dajti Mountain National Park.  With a peak elevation of 1.6k meters above sea level (about 5.3k ft.), Dajti Mountain affords excellent views of the Albanian capital city.  

Prizren is one of the largest cities in the partially recognized Republic of Kosovo in Southeastern Europe.  It's located on the banks of the Prizren River, about an hour's drive northwest of the Macedonian capital of Skopje and a similar distance south of the Albanian capital city of Tirana.  It's situated on the slopes of the Sar mountains, which separate Kosovo from Macedonia.  Check out this city from a drone's eye perspective in this video by AirVuz contributor and pilot Silvadesignco.

The spectacular medieval Srebrenik Fortress lies in the northeastern corner of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the Balkan Peninsula in Southeastern Europe.  While the fortress was abandoned shortly after being built in the 14th century, it is one of the best-preserved medieval fortresses in all of Europe.  It was the birthplace of Tvrtko I Kotromanić first king of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Contributor Tamas Vargas used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this amazing video, which begins with a selfie and then reveals the mighty fortification.

The Šar Mountains of Southeastern Europe extend from northeastern Albania to the east, forming the natural boundary between the country of Macedonia and the  partially-recognized state of Kosovo.  In this drone video by new AirVuz contributor bedribushi, you'll get an aerial view of two of the more prominent mountains of the Šar: Macedonia's Black Peak and Kobilica Peak.  The former is the slightly taller of the two; its summit elevation is just under 2.6k meters above sea level (just under 8.5k ft.).  

Top content creator and Drone Video of the Week winner HikeTheWorld spent a month in the Balkan country of Montenegro with a drone.  He was able to capture aerial footage of the country's most scenic spots, including Lake Piva, Durmitor National Park, Tara River Canyon, Prokletije National Park, Lake Skadar, Rijeka Crnojevica, Budva, and the Bay of Kotor.  Watching it, you will see why this country, which was part of Serbia until 2006, has become a top tourist destination in southeastern Europe.
