Western Australia by Drone

Top photographer Scott Bauer took his captures of the great state of Western Australia to new heights when he put both aerial perspective and motion into his work via his DJI Phantom 4 drone.  His native state gave him plenty of scenic locations too; this 2018 drone reel - nominated for Drone Video of the Week in October 2018 -  shows plenty of jaw-dropping and wonderfully artistic glimpses of the area endearingly referred to as West Oz, including Margaret River, and the coastal surf just south of Perth.

In this video from Western Australia, top contributor Merr Watson wonders aloud what about nature inspires each of us. Narrating her answer over stunning aerial shots of the countryside, she says it inspires her because it reminds her that there is something so much bigger than each of us, keeping us truly present in the moment and reminding us that there is always room to grow.  Western Australia is one of the six states (plus two territories) of this massive country, covering most of its western half. 

In this video, top contributor Merr Watson shows us a part of Australia that few people ever see.  It's shot in the area to the north of Perth, the capital of the gigantic state of Western Australia which is home to about 80% of its population.  The video starts around the Margaret River region (where Perth lies) and heads north, to the   Pinnacles, the great rock formations near Cervantes.  Continuing further north, she heads to Port Gregory and ends up at Kalbarri, about 600 km (around 370 mi.) north of Perth.  

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor seeker.media brings us this outstanding 2022 drone highlight reel from Western Australia.  At the :13 mark, you'll see an impressive array of wind turbines somewhere along the massive state's coastline, and at the :40 mark there are some great views of a school of hammerhead sharks.  At about the 1:23 mark, you'll be treated to some outstanding shots of the skyline of Perth, the state capital and center of Australia's fourth largest metropolitan area.  

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor pieterjohnsen brings us this excellent drone video from the giant state of Western Australia.  Shot with a DJI Mavic Air 2 drone, the video was filmed over the southwestern corner of the state, which is home to most of the WA population as well as some of the country's most spectacular natural scenery.  The video will take you over the WA coastal scenery around the Margaret River region south of Perth, the southern coast towns of Albany and Esperance, the pink Lake Hillier, and more.  

For an aerial view of the natural beauty of Western Australia, it's hard to beat this video by top contributor, drone pilot, and traveler extraordinaire Isabelle Fabre.  The video uses drone footage to track her adventures, which including kiteboarding off of Esperance (the largest city on the southern coast of WA), a 4x4 ride to the Fitzgerald River, swimming with manta rays in Augusta, tree climbing in the Karri Forest, running with kangaroos on the Margaret River, and another epic kiteboarding session in Safety Bay.  

Perth is the capital of Western Australia, the vast state which would be a large country on its own.  Roughly 80% of Western Australia's 2.5 million inhabitants live in this city on the Indian Ocean, making it the fourth largest city in the country after Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.  The city is extremely remote from other Australian cities, the closest one being Adelaide nearly 2.7k km (1.5k mi) away.  Using a DJI Inspire 2 drone, contributor Intrepid Drone Services created this memorable aerial video of Perth at sunset.  

This recap of a trip to Western Australia is another gem by contributor and travel vlogger Merr Watson. She visited Esperance, a small city on the lightly populated southern coast of WA.  In Merr's own words: “words cannot describe how truly beautiful Esperance is with its stunning white, sandy beaches, rocky coastlines, extremely turquoise waters and magical sunsets. It had left me breathless and I never wanted to leave!”  Watch the video and you will likely share her sentiment! 

Top contributor Jaxon Roberts gives us an epic bird's eye view of the far southwestern corner of Australia.  The video was taken near the town of Dunsborough, a medium-sized town in the Margaret River Region of the state of Western Australia.  With spectacular bird's eye views of the stunning coastline, crystal blue waters, and even a few sharks, you will see why the Dunsborough area is one of WA's most popular tourist destinations.  The town is located about 250 km (around 160 mi.) south of the WA state capital city, Perth.  

When it comes to filming people in beautiful locations, top AirVuz contributor Jaxon Roberts is a standout.  His video "Byron Bay" is one of the most popular on the site, with well over a million views.  So when he says that this video was his favorite to film, you know it's worth a watch.  He filmed it on the other side of the country, in Western Australia.  The sequence does a beautiful job of introducing the natural backdrop, then the human subject, and then combining the two for a great finale, all in a single continuous shot.  

For some epic views of people having fun in the sand, it's hard to beat this video by top content creator and drone pilot Sandrine Hecq, who was nominated as a Finalist in the second annual Drone Video Awards.  She records a family trip up the coast of Western Australia to the area around Lancelin, about a two hour drive north of the WA capital city Perth.  It's a place of spectacular sand dunes and (slightly inland) some fabulous scenery in the Pinnacle Desert, home to the spectacular pinnacle sandstone formations.

Rottnest Island is situated off the coast of Western Australia, just a short distance due west from Perth, the capital of the state.  Using a DJI Phantom 4 drone and a GoPro Hero 5 mounted to a DJI Osmi, top content creator and pilot Sandrine Hecq gives us an aerial view of an epic boat party held off the island to celebrate the Australia Day holiday.  Held on January 26th every year, the national holiday commemorates the arrival of the first British ships in Sydney Harbor in the 18th century. 

Top AirVuz contributor Boyanoo brings us this stunning travel video from Western Australia.  The video, which combines drone (DJI Mavic Air 2) and ground camera footage, was shot over the course of a two week trip between Perth (the WA state capital) and the town of Esperance, which lies about 720 km (around 450 mi.) to the southeast of Perth, along the country's southern coastline.  Some of the locations featured in the video include the coastal towns of Dunsborough and Denmark, the interior Wave Rock, Hamelin and Wiley Bays, and more.  

The title says it all. Take a trip surfing, snorkeling, jet skiing, boating, suntanning, and whale watching in this water adventure piece by contributor and pilot azure_co. Shot on a DJI Phantom 3 along the stunning shoreline of the state of Western Australia, it's pretty amazing what the group was able to capture on what is now considered an older drone. So impressive, in fact, the video was nominated as a finalist in the Extreme Sports category for the second annual AirVuz Drone Video Awards. 

Top contributor, drone pilot and vlogger Sandrine Hecq donned her swimsuit and grabbed her drone, allowing her to create this stunning video from Esperance in the state of Western Australia.  Esperance lies on the southern coastline of this gigantic state, which would be amongst the ten largest countries in the world in land area if it were independent.  And with 80% of its population living in and around Perth (on WA's west coast, over 700 km or 450 mi. from Esperance), that leaves a lot of open spaces to explore.  

Content creator and drone pilot CarrandDrone gives us a nice bird's eye view of the Wheat Belt in the interior of the vast state of Western Australia.  Mukinbudin is a small town with a population of less than 1,000 inhabitants, situated a few hours drive due east of the WA capital city Perth.  The video will give you a sense of the beauty and endless horizons of Western Australia, a state which is roughly 4x the size of the state of Texas in the USA by land area and dwarfs the entire Great Plains area of the USA.   

While the Australian surfing scene is most closely associated with the eastern beaches around Sydney in New South Wales and the Gold Coast area of in Queensland, Western Australia also has some of the best surfing beaches in the world.  The endless coastline and a much lower population density of the vast state make for some incredible spots to ride the waves.  In this video, contributor and pilot Sky Perth uses a drone to give us a bird's eye look at one of these spots, in WA's Margaret River region.

In this very popular drone video by contributor Jaimen Hudson, he filmed a stand up paddleboarder cruising the waters off of Esperance, in Western Australia.  While it's not possible to know with certainty if the paddleboarder was aware of it, two giant whales are swimming just a few meters/feet underneath him.  The unforgettable bird's eye view of this scene is testament to the power of drones to look at our world from entirely new perspectives which would be otherwise impossible to see.

Lake Hillier is a highly unusual lake on Middle Island,  a small island situated just off of the southern coast of the state of Western Australia, near the Cape Arid National Park west of Esperance.  Due to the presence of an unusual organism, the color of the lake's water is a vibrant pink hue.  In this video, contributor and drone pilot Jaimen Hudson worked with a cruise line operating on the lake to produce an amazing aerial perspective of a one of a kind body of water, a true natural wonder in the land Down Under.  

Known for his exciting and artistic music videos and long, hypnotic edits, top content creator and drone pilot Jaxon_roberts brings us something much simpler but, arguably, intimately more beautiful - a pod of over 50 dolphins swimming through the waters off the Australian coast. The video gives you a sense of serenity, peace and a hopeful perspective. This 45 second piece was shot off the coast of Esperance, in the state of Western Australia.  It's all the more fitting because "esperance" is French for hope. 

A huge percentage of the population of the Australian state of Western Australia live in the southwestern corner of the vast state, which covers roughly the western third of the country and would be one of the world's 20 largest countries by land area.  Sky Perth, one of WA's top drone piloting companies, created this beautiful all aerial tour of the region.  With compelling views of Sugarloaf Rock, Cape to Cape Track, North Point Gracetown, and Meelup Beach, this calming and inspiring piece will leave you craving a getaway down under.

Western Australia is home to many amazing and unique animals, plants, and naturally occurring phenomena - one of which is its pink lakes. Yes, pink.  This very unusual but very natural phenomenon is caused by a combination of high salt content, several salt-loving bacteria, and different types of red and pink algae that give the lakes their unique shade. Creative pilot and adventurer Isabellefabre does what she does best while visiting one of these lakes - windsurfing the fuchsia waters. 

Gold mining was single most important activity which drove the growth of modern Australia.  It began with the great strikes on the eastern side of the continent, in New South Wales and Victoria in the mid 1800's.  The first big strikes in Western Australia occurred later in the century, and gold is still being mined there, albeit in smaller quantities.  Contributor CarrandDrone worked with the operator of the Edna May Gold Mine in WA over six months to produce this fascinating video of the modern gold mining process.

On the Western coast of Australia, top content creator, drone pilot, and vlogger Merr Watson basks in the warmth of the sun setting upon the Lancelin Sand Dunes.  They lie near a small town of the same name, about a two hour drive north along the coast from the Western Australia capital city of Perth.  In the video, Merr and friends take in views of the ocean as they stand atop the sandy drifts — capturing dronies from a bird's eye view and playing around as though they're in the world's biggest sand box.

Content creator Drone_Pilots_Australia brings us this beautiful drone video of Dick Hartog Island in the state of Western Australia.  It's situated in the Gascoyne Coast area, which is roughly in the middle of the coastline.  With about 620 square km (around 240 square mi.) of land area, it's one of the largest islands on Australia's Indian Ocean coastline.  Mostly covered in sand dunes, Dick Hartog Island is also known as an important conservation area for several species of sea turtles.

Hekticdrones brings us this aerial view of the town of Geraldton in Western Australia.  The city is situated at about the midpoint of WA's west coast, about 420 km (around 250 mi.) north of the capital city Perth.  Given that about 80% of WA's population of 2.5 million lives in greater Perth, Geraldton's population of 40,000 puts it solidly in the next tier of WA cities.  As you'll see in the video, it's a beautiful stretch of coastline, with steep cliffs dropping down to the deep blue waters of the Indian Ocean below.  

Sky Perth created this beautiful drone video of some stunning rocks near the southwestern corner of Australia.  The Canal Rocks lie just a few km off the coast of Yallingup, a town on the southern part of the Indian Ocean coastline of the state of Western Australia.  They get their name from the natural "canal" that was formed from the erosion of the granite by the action of the water.  Located between Dunsborough and Margaret River, it's one of the more popular sights of southwestern Australia.  

The brightness of the white sand beaches in this video by Drone Video Awards' Nominee Jaxon_roberts will blow your mind. Known for his exciting edits, cinematic shots, and gorgeous filming locations it is no wonder this drone video of Esperance, Australia is fantastic. Make sure to stick around long enough to see the hundreds of dolphins swimming through the ocean - it is pretty incredible.  Esperance is located on the southern coast of the state of the massive state of Western Australia.  

With much focus and balance, yogi KT Coryell does her yoga practice on the Wyadup Rocks in Yallingup, in the state of Western Australia. Contributor and drone pilot Sky Perth filmed her graceful movements from above using a DJI Phantom 3 drone. Surrounded by crashing waves on the coast, warm sunlight, and peaceful nature, this is a truly enlightening yoga session. Be inspired, mindful, and thankful for this outstanding aerial footage from this talented drone pilot from the land Down Under.

Contributor Shoey's Adventures used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 to create this beautiful sunset video of Perth Australia.  Most of the video was shot around the Swan River, one of the main rivers of Western Australia.  Among other spots, the video features footage of two of the newest additions to the Perth skyline: (1) the Matagarup Bridge, a just-completed (2018) pedestrian bridge over the river which incorporates a highly unusual design; and the new Perth Stadium, Australia's third largest football stadium.

Mandurah is one of the most important cities in the state of Western Australia.  It's located on the Mendurah Estuary about an hour's drive south of the WA state capital of Perth.  While Mendurah is one of Australia's older settlements, it wasn't much more than a tiny fishing village as late as the mid-20th century.  With a population of about 100k, it's now the state's second-largest city.  In this drone video, you'll get an aerial tour of Mendurah, as well as its southern suburb of Dawesville.       

In this drone video, contributor and pilot DodgeyJess does a great job of aerially capturing one of the largest hydroelectric dams in Australia.  The Wellington Dam Hydro Power Station is located near the town of Collie, near the southwestern corner of the country in the state of Western Australia.  Situated about a two hour drive south of the WA state capital of Perth, the power station was built in the 1950's.  Fed by the Collie River, it's the second largest hydro generator in the state of WA.  

If you think that dolphins always stay away from the surf line, you'll need to watch this video.  Australian contributor and drone pilot Jaimen filmed a large group of dolphins swimming off the shore in Australia.  They repeatedly ride the surf in and then break away seconds before getting beached, literally  leaping out of the water to do so.  This video was a 2017 Drone Video Award Animal Category Nominee.  It was filmed in Western Australia, home of some of the world's best dolphin-watching waters.  

Bunbury is a coastal town in the state of Western Australia.  It's situated about 175 km (around 110 mi.) south of Perth, the WA capital city.  With a population of about 75,000, Bunbury is the state's third largest city after Perth and Mandurah.  It lies at the south end of a body of water known as the Leschenault Estuary, which has been heavily altered over time through various engineering works.  The economy of the town is driven by the mining industry and, to a somewhat lesser extent, by agriculture.  

The giant state of Western Australia is known for its abundant marine mammal wildlife, among other distinctions.  In this drone video by brand-new AirVuz contributor georgiasf, you'll get a great aerial view of a pod of dolphins frolicking in the warm waters near Esperance.  Located on Australia's southern coast on the Great Australian Bight, Esperance is located about 720 km (around 450 mi.) southeast of the WA state capital in Perth.  Like much of the WA coast, wild dolphins can be found here year-round.  

New contributor SKYVIEW brings us this excellent aerial view of a well-known rock formation in southwestern Australia called Castle Rock.  It's located in the Porongurup National Park in the Great Southern region of the state of Western Australia.  Located about 360 km (around 210 mi.) southeast of the WA capital city of Perth, the top of the giant natural structure is accessible via a walkway.  This area was once home to the Porongurup Mountains, which rose here over a billion years ago and have since largely been levelled.  

Top contributor Gizmo Drones brings us this excellent sunrise-to-sunset drone video of Perth, Australia's fourth-largest city.  Shot with an Autel Nano+, it opens with shots of King's Park, which overlooks the section of the Swan River known as the Perth Water.  Then it's on to the pedestrian Matagarup Bridge, followed by Perth Stadium, Australia's third-largest as of 2022.  At the 2:00 mark, you'll see the port of Fremantle, a Perth suburb.  Other locations include East Perth (2:40), Scarborough Beach (3:16), and Elizabeth Quay (3:38). 

Born in South Africa and now living in Australia, top content creator Sandrine Hecq is a world-traveling, drone-flying adventurer.  She has become a juggernaut on Instagram, with over 50k followers as of the beginning of 2019, and her video "My Drone Story" was picked as a finalist for the second annual DVA's.  On this episode of The Drone Dish, Sandrine talks about how she got into travel vlogging, what it's like to fly in Zimbabwe, the Maldives, her adopted new home in Western Australia, and what's next.
