The beach city of Cancún in southern Mexico represents the country's most successful effort to use the power and purse of the central and state governments to develop tourism.  The city was more or less created out of thin air in the 1970's as a string of hotel and resort properties along a deserted stretch of beach in the state of Quiintana Roo.  Today, it's one of the country's leading destinations and a perennial spring break favorite.  Check it out from above in this awesome drone video by Travel Lifestyle.
