Aerial Video of Remains from Tragic Shipwreck

Striking aerial video footage shows the remains of a harrowing and tragic shipwreck off the coast of Alaska. Drone pilot iskenderfilm documented what remains of the wrecked commercial fishing vessel.

On April 20, 2010 the Northern Belle began to turn on its side. In an attempt to thwart the sinking, the crew attempted to steer the vessel in the opposite direction. The effort was unsuccessful. Captain Robert Royer quickly knew this and ordered his crew of three put on their survival suits. As the ship was sinking Captain Royer put in a mayday call. The chilling audio files were released by the Coast Guard and can be heard on the track overlay on this drone video.

"Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! This is the Northern Belle."

"We have four persons on board. We are getting in a life raft here. We are going down."

The survivors were rescued from the water three hours after the call. Royer's call is credited for their survival but tragically, as he attempted to exit the sinking ship, he sustained a head injury and drowned.
