It's the Alappuzha (Alleppey) district of Kerala, which runs along India's southwestern (Arabian Sea) coastline. The smallest of Kerala's 14 districts by land area, Alappuzha is one of its most popular for tourists. Crossed by rivers that drain the Western Ghats Mountains to the east, as well as inter-connecting canals, Alappuzha has earned itself the nickname of the "Venice of the East".
