Also known as Archaia Olympia, it's located on the Peloponnese Peninsula, a region of the southern part of the country. The location was the site of the original Olympic games, which were held every four years beginning in the 8th century BC and running through the 4th century AD before going into abeyance for over 1500 years pending their re-emergence as the modern Olympic Games.
