AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

Take an aerial tour of the Greek island of Andros, compliments of new contributor JKDroner.  The first stop is Achla Beach, in the northeastern part of the island.  At the :18 mark, you'll fly by the St. Mamas monastery.  At :26, you'll see Apothikes Beach, on the island's western side, followed by Fellos beach to the northwest.  At 1:15, there are some great shots of the island's main town, also known as Chora, which lies on a bay on its eastern side.  Other highlights include Tower St. Peter (1:50), Faneromeni Castle (2:34), and more.

BADGES THIS VIDEO HAS EARNED:

Andros is the northernmost island of the Cyclades island group. It stands out from the generally barren Cycladic islands, thanks to its lush vegetation and scenic natural landscapes. Despite its proximity to Athens, the island hasn’t been affected much by the mass tourism, managing to keep its laid-back, unspoiled vibe! Chora, the island’s capital town, offers a mixture of Venetian, Byzantine and Ottoman architecture. The result? Noble mansions and neoclassical buildings coexisting in harmony with the modern side of the town! Chora owes its architectural beauty to the islanders’ love for the sea, as the imposing mansions used to belong to the local sailors and captains. The beaches of Andros on their own are enough of a reason to visit the island! Organized or unspoiled, isolated or popular, its beaches seem to be able to please every visitor. The most famous ones are Agios Petros, Batsi and Golden Sand. If you are more into virgin and isolated beaches, though, choose Vlychada, Agios Sostis and Halkolimnionas instead. The natural beauty of this verdant island is divine! The hiking paths that cross the island will give you the chance to explore its lush vegetation. Packed with walnut trees, chestnut trees, oak trees and olive trees, Andros is a natural paradise!
