The first, Birr Castle, is located in its namesake town in County Offaly, near the geographic center of the Irish Republic. The current structure dates to the 17th century. The second featured landmark is Nenagh Castle, which is located in County Tipperary, Offaly's southern neighbor. Nengagh Castle dates to the 13th century. The last stop is the Gothic-style Charleville Castle back in County Offaly; it dates to the early 19th century.

During our trip in County Tipperary/Offaly we had the opportunity to visit multiple ancient castles. (1) Nenagh Castle: Remains of a 13th-century limestone castle with a prominent cylindrical keep & historical info. (2) Birr Castle: a large castle in the town of Birr in County Offaly, Ireland. It is the home of the 7th Earl of Rosse and his family. (3) Charleville Castle: a Gothic-style castle located in County Offaly, Ireland, bordering the town of Tullamore, near the River Clodiagh. It is considered one of the finest of its type in the country.
