The city of Cartagena, Colombia has a storied history. During Colonial days, the city became the most important port in the Spanish Empire, serving as the hub through which the vast silver and gold deposits of the Western Hemisphere passed en route to the mother country. Key to the defense of Cartagena was the Castillo San Felipe de Barajas (San Felipe Castle), which sits in a highly strategic position on a hill overlooking the city. Seen here in this drone video by rkmaerial, the great fortification was built beginning in 1536.

The Castillo San Felipe de Barajas is a fortress in the city of Cartagena, Colombia. The castle is located on the Hill of San Lázaro in a strategic location, dominating approaches to the city by land or sea. It was built by the Spanish during the colonial era. Construction began in the year 1536, and it was originally known as the Castillo de San Lázaro, It was expanded in 1657.
