Csobánc hill :: Hungary
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
The area north of Hungary's Lake Balaton is known as the Balaton Uplands, and it features a distinctively beautiful landscape of hills which are of (inactive) volcanic origin. In this drone video by rajnairichard, you'll get a bird's eye view of one of the more well known of these hills. It's called Csobánc, and it's part of the Balaton Uplands National Park. The video features footage of the castle that sits atop the hill, which dates to the 13th century and withstood several seiges by Turkish (Ottoman) forces in the 16th century.

Csobánc is one of the unique and peculiar monadnocks of Tapolca Basin. Similar to the other hills in the area, it is of volcanic origin. These hills are called “Witness Hills”. The expression originates from the fact that these hills “witnessed” the decrease of the land surface level during volcanic activity millions of years ago. The castle has been attacked by the Turks between 1554 and 1567.
