The federal subject of Russia is located in the North Caucasus region.  Bounded by the Caspian Sea and partially covered by the Caucasus Mountains, Dagestan is a word with Turkish and Persian origins that means “mountain” and “land.”  The video features spectacular footage from across the region, including the large fortress in Derbent; Derbent is believed to be the oldest city in Russia.
