Drone Video of Khivus Drifting on Lake Baikal in Siberia

Published 05/14/2019 03:59

Drone pilots frequently film drift cars, race cars, and motocross, but this unique aerial film captures a whole different kind of drifting. On frozen Lake Baikal, pilot Tanya Shkondina documented a drifting khivus.

Lake Baikal is the world’s deepest lake and a UNESCO world heritage site, located in the Russian region of Siberia, north of the Mongolian border. A khivus is an amphibious hovercraft. The adapted vehicle is capable of traversing the lake year-round.

During the cold winter months, the surface of the frozen lake allows the khivus to drift across its surface. The drone video shows the agility of the vehicle and the region’s natural beauty. Khivuses are available to rent for a guided tour of the lake and can seat up to nine passengers.
