Motovun is situated in Istria, the largest peninsula on the Adriatic Sea, which is mostly Croatian territory with a small section in Italy. Motovun reflects the blend of Croatian and Italian cultures which prevails in the region, and it has an Italian name as well: Montona. The village dates to medieval times. It is perhaps best known in modern times as the birthplace of champion race car driver Mario Andretti.
