Powerplant Smoke Stack Implosion Chase FPV
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Here's something you definitely don't see every day - a first person view (FPV) drone video of a giant power plant being blown up in a demolition. In February, 2022, the four stacks of the James River Power Station in Springfield, Missouri were brought down by a carefully controlled series of charges. The FPV pilot worked with the city of Springfield, the plant owner, to record the event for posterity. Opened in 1957 and subsequently expanded multiple times, the 250MW plant converted from coal to gas in 2015 and was retired in 2021.

On February 19th, 2022 the city of Springfield Missouri through the planning of City Utilities imploded the smokestacks at the retired James River powerplant located at Springfield Lake. Working with the utility company, we coordinated a timed FPV shot and we think it turned out epic! We used the iFlight Chimera 7 long-range quad running DJI Digital FPV and TBS Crossfire. For the camera, we used a GoPro Hero 10 at 4k 60fps 4:3 using TBS ND filters.
