Siddavatam Fort, Kadapa, India

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE : Siddavatam is the site of an important 14th century fortress in southern India. It's located in Kadapa, an interior district of the southern state of Andhra Pradesh. Situated on the let bank of the Penna River, the fortress was completed in 1303. Covering an area of about 12 acres, the fortress has several temples within its walls, namely the Ranganatha Swamy, Siddheswara, Durga, and the Bala Brahma Temples. Seen here in this drone video by kktheij, the fortress underwent substantial alterations and improvements in the 16th century.

Once patronised by kings of 18 dynasties, Siddavatam, a small village which has more than 120 temples is a part of Kadapa district. Siddavatam was one of the places where spiritual fervour was at its peak once upon a time. . . The name of the place itself depicts that it was associated with the siddhas who were known for their vast knowledge of alchemy and mysticism. There is a belief that still some siddhas are living in the forest and caves of Siddavatam, Kadapa and places nearby. . . There was a time when many number of siddhas used to sit on round platform built around banyan trees. So the place got it's name from that 'Siddha' and 'Vatam' which means banyan tree. The archeologists have found pots with unknown chemicals in them and they are possible that it is related to alchemy of siddhas. . . The emperors used to bestow several gifts and gold ornaments to the temples. Even today the village is a big draw for many treasure hunters. . . There is a fort located near the banks of river Penna in Siddavatam. This river has natural gorges and canyons which are beautiful and act as a great natural trench for the fort.
