The Beautiful city of Hindeloopen

Check out this drone video of a historic city in the northern Netherlands, compliments of contributor and pilot The Netherlands from Above. It's the town of Hindeloopen, and it's on the IJsselmeer, the great bay-cum-lake north of Amsterdam. Founded in the early 13th century, Hindeloopen was one of the most important seafaring towns in the province of Friesland, and was a member of the Hanseatic League. In 1932, when the IJ was created by closing off the Zuiderzee with a dike, Hindeloopen lost its direct access to the North Sea.

History: Hindeloopen received city rights in 1225 and in 1368 it became a member of the Hanseatic League. Since the 12th and 13th century, shippers of Hindeloopen undertook journeys to the North and Baltic Sea Coasts. The strong overseas connections with foreign countries and infrequent contact with the hinterland were probably the reasons for the developing of the Hindeloopen language; a mixture of West Frisian , English, Danish and Norwegian.
