For Black History Month, I wanted to create a short tribute to the black church. Given the history of black people in this country, the black church was vital. It was a place of hope, spiritual guidance, education and refuge. It even served as a venue for political discussions. The same applies today. If you like history, you should dig deeper into the beginnings of the black churches in your area, you will find their history very interesting. I grew up in a black church. In fact, I lived next door to our church. I sang in the youth choir for a short period and became an usher. I was also responsible for maintaining the church lawn. If I remember correctly, I believe the church paid me $15 for the yard work. We could not afford a riding lawn mower, so I got a good workout push mowing the church lawn and cutting my own grass. Thinking back, that was a daunting task. However, I always felt a sense of pride when the doors of the church opened on Sundays with a fresh cut lawn. That was a long time ago. Unfortunately, the only times I've been back to my old church since moving away was to attend funerals. Whenever I get a chance to visit my hometown, I always drive by the church. My neighborhood has changed a lot, but my church still stands in that familiar place at the end of the street. It brings back so many memories. I hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for watching!
