The mountains near Romantsevo (called "Romantsevskye", "Konduki")
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
For decades during Soviet times, most of Russia's electric power generation was fired by coal, particularly the low-grade variety called lignite. While coal-fired plants now provide less than 20% of the country's electricity supply, the massive amounts of lignite mined to date have fundamentally transformed the landscape of former coal-producing areas. In this fascinating drone video by romanblats, you'll get an aerial view of one of these areas in Tula; south of the national capital, it's in the heart of the Moscow Coal Basin.

The mountains near Romantsevo (called Romantsevskye) in the spring resemble an another planet landscape. Lakes of incredible shades, and the desert, rugged by cracks, and rocky mountains, and trees, rooted deep into the clay shell. This unusual place has many names - it was formed in the 60s due to open-pit mining of brown coal, the deposits of which came close to the surface.
