Why do whales breach ?

Breaching is when a whale picks up speed and leaps out of the water, exposing up to 90% of its body. The theories are: that it’s a way to communicate desire or wanting to play; they are letting others know of nearby predators; they may be telling others they have found food nearby or as a way to stun their prey. Either way, it’s a magnificent, awe-inspiring thing to see. See a breaching whale from above in this drone video.
