Winter always arrives to New Hampshire in fits and starts. The beauty of our natural landscape is transformed in this magical time of transition between seasons. The leaves fall away revealing the bare bones of the trees. The temperatures drop and create thin sheets of crinkled crystalline ice on the lakes. Snow falls and blankets the landscape - then it melts away for a brief respite. And this year, the snow returned much stronger than usual. We had four inches on December 10 and then almost a foot of snow on the 12th. The brooks and larger lakes have not completely frozen over, so we get the contrast of seasons appearing in single scenes. All in all, a beautiful and under-appreciated time of year. Enjoy!
