Flying Inside Itaembezinho

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE : AirVuz contributor and pilot Luiz Gerbase brings us this stunning drone video of a well-known canyon in the southern part of Brazil. It's called Itaimbezinho, and it's located in Aparados da Serra National Park (one of Brazil's first national parks) on the border of the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. The canyon is about 4 mi. long (around 6 km) and is up to about 2.4k ft. deep (around 720 m). The canyon's name derives from the words "cut rock" in the native Tupi-Guarani language.

The famous and impressive Itaimbezinho Canyon (from Tupi-Guarani Ita [stone] and Aí'be [sharp]) is located in the Aparados da Serra National Park, a Brazilian conservation unit for full protection of nature.

Flying inside this canyon, close to the stream, is very difficult as the drone's stabilization is lost due to the lack of access to the GPS and the strong wind currents. The waterfalls that appear in the video are Andorinhas and Véu da Noiva.

With a length of 5.8 km and a maximum height of about 720 m, the gorge is crossed by the Perdizes stream, the Rio do Boi Trail allows access to the interior of the canyon from the city of Praia Grande.

The park is located in Serra Geral, encompassing the gorges on the natural border between the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.

The park's basic objective is to preserve the ecosystems of the Atlantic Forest, the araucaria forests and the gaucho pampa, of great scenic beauty,

The unit is currently managed by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio)
