Oldest Church in Karlovo, Bulgaria

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

AirVuz contributor Danovski Air brings us this excellent drone video from a historic city in Bulgaria called Karlovo.  Karlovo is located in the province of Plovdiv at the foot of the Balkan Mountains, near the geographic center of this Southeast European country.  Famous for its rose oil (and surrounding rose fields), the town largely dates to the 15th century, during the early part of the Ottoman Empire reign over the region.  The video features excellent footage of the city's 19th century Eastern Orthodox church.

BADGES THIS VIDEO HAS EARNED:

Its construction was completed in 1851 by master Atanas Maznev from Bratsigovo. The temple is a three-nave basilica, with one apse and three vaults. The iconostasis is made of walnut wood. There are no wall paintings, but there are original and restored icons by representatives of the Samokov art school such as Stanislav Dospevski. The granite columns have been restored and the pulpit has a special status.

Since 2004, priest Hristo Minchev Minchev has been the chairman of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary church, and since 2011 a Sunday school has been operating at the church, which is led by his wife, presbyter Neli Mincheva. The church has a choir with a 100-year tradition.
