Visiting Rio de Janeiro was high on the travel bucket list of drone pilot and videographer Gavin Beals aka The3Ventures, who flies around the world to make compelling travel videos using drones.  Thank goodness he finally made it to Rio because his aerial footage of the beaches, mountains, and cityscapes of Brazil’s famous seaside city is simply breathtaking.  Rio was chosen as the host city for the 2016 Summer Olympics, putting the city firmly in the world spotlight.

For a two and a half minute aerial tour of the great Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, it's tough to beat this drone video by top contributor PaulVlad.  His video brings some of the epic views for which the city is famous, such as the impressive skyline and Copacabana Beach, the Christ the Redeemer statue, and more.  Some of the best footage in the video is aerial footage of a hang glider working its way down the steep hills which surround Brazil's second largest city.

The iconic Christ the Redeemer statue is one of Rio de Janeiro’s most popular attractions, and it looks great from an aerial perspective. Contributor El Gringo Rojo used a drone to fly around this famous statue overlooking the city (Brazil's second largest and also the capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro) and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.  The video was taken so as to provide remarkable views of the city while keeping the statue in the shot throughout the video.

Pedra de Gavea is an impressive and intimidating mountain in Rio de Janeiro that offers stunning views of the Brazilian city.  From the rocks atop the mountain, one is treated to stunning views of downtown Rio, Copacabana Bay, and the surrounding countryside.  It's one of the most iconic sights from this massive South American country.  Those views are enhanced even more with a drone, as we see here from the footage of drone pilot Martin Sanchez.

Contributor Hasam Adin created this gorgeous drone video of Rio de Janeiro at sunset.  Much of the footage was shot around Sugar Loaf Mountain, the improbably shaped hill in Guanabara Bay.  It's one of the top attractions in Rio, and has been a shooting location for numerous films and TV shows.  Famously, the cablecar running to the top of the mountain (which you'll see at the :30 mark) was the location for a scene in the 1977 James Bond movie Moonraker starring Roger Moore, the 12th in the series.

Niterói is a sort of (much smaller) twin to the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.  It sits across the great Guanabara Bay from the larger city, a sort of Oakland to the San Francisco of Rio.  The area is sometimes used to define the larger area on the east side of its bay, only part of which is in the Niterói city limits.  In this drone video by Digital Peace, you'll get a nice aerial view of the beaches on the Niterói side of the great bay, north and east of central Rio.
