Fiji by drone

Exclusive ...

The nation of Fiji consists of a group of islands in the middle of the South Pacific region.  It's part of the group of islands known as Melanesia which (along with Micronesia and Polynesia) is one of the main South Pacific subregions.  On the western end of the archipelago is a group of volcanic islands called the Yasawa Islands.  Top contributor Exclusive Aerials used a DJI Phantom 3 Pro drone to create this tour of one of these islands, which were (famously) used to film the 1980's blockbuster film "The Blue Lagoon" starring Brooke Shields.

Contributor and pilot Tyler Rooke used a DJI Phantom 3 drone to create this epic selfie from Namotu Island, one of the 300+ islands which make up the nation of Fiji in the South Pacific.  Namutu is situateed just a few km/miles to the west of Viti Levu, the main island of Fiji.  Namotu is the southernmost in a chain of tiny islands called the Mamanuca Islands.  It's known for having some of the best surfing beaches in Melanesia, as the southwestern part of the South Pacifc island region is commonly known.

Contributor AndrewAchter spent a week in Fiji and created this beautiful video of his travels across the archipelago.  He used both a drone and a ground camera to capture some of the sights and sounds of this South Pacific country, which is spread over hundreds of islands.  Fiji is part of a larger region called Melanesia, which also includes Papau New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and New Caledonia.  Melanesia is situated to the south of Micronesia and to the west of Polynesia.

The Yasawa Islands are some of the most well known amongst the hundreds which make up the South Pacific island nation of Fiji.  The chain begins to the northwest of the main island of Fiji and extend to the northeast.  These islands became very well known several decades ago when they were used as the primary shooting location for the 1980 blockbuster The Blue Lagoon, starring Brooke Shields.  In this video, you'll get a bird's eye view of the Yasawa's compliments of contributor and drone pilot Safi Dehili.

Lost in the South Pacific

One of the attractions of Fiji is the sheer number of islands which make up the archipelago.  There are over 300 named islands plus hundreds of tiny islets and coral reefs which don't even have names.  The majority of the named islands and virtually all of the unnamed islands are uninhabited.  In this video by Benandstories, you'll get a great view of what these tiny islands really look like, both from the air and on the ground.  As you will see, the scene almost defines "tropical paradise".

Jasonkmcle...

Cloudbreak is a left-breaking reef pass off the shores of Namotu, one of the islands of Fiji in the South Pacific.  It is regularly ranked amongst the 10-12 best surfing spots in the world, and has hosted many competitions where the best surfers on earth show up to take it on.   In this  drone video by contributor and drone pilot Jasonmclean, you'll get a bird's eye view of some very skilled surfers hitting the waves here.   It's a reminder of how much drones have revolutionized how we see action sports like surfing.

Cmfrt Medi...

Pura Vida is a manufacturer of "tropical" style bracelets and other accessories.  Contributor Comfrt Media collaborated with the company to make a promotional video highlighting the "island lifestyle".  The video was shot in Fiji, an island nation which lies in the South Pacific Ocean.  What resulted from the effort was this magnificent video, which does an excellent job of bringing out the beauty of this tropical paradise and also utilizes some clever (and very subtle) product placement.

See Fiji's Kadavu Island by drone in this stunning, 4K video by world traveler, top AirVuz contributor, and drone pilot Jturner. Kadavu is the fourth largest island in this South Pacific island nation, measuring out at about 411 square km (around 160 square mi.). It is the largest island of the Kadavu Group, a volcanic archipelago on the Great Astrolabe Reef.  About 60 km long (around 37 mi.), Kadavu is nearly sliced in half; only the very narrow Namalata Isthmus connects the two halves of the island.

PROEPICS (...

Some of the most popular spots in the South Pacific island nation of Fiji can be found in the small island chains which run west and north of the main island of Viti Levu.  The Mamanucas consists of 20 islands just off Viti Levu's western shore, about a third of which are underwater at high tide.  The better-known Yasawas lie to their northeast, and consist of six main islands a little over a dozen smaller ones.  You can check out both of these island chains from a bird's eye perspective in this excellent piece by AirVuz contributor Proepics.

Check out these beautiful drone views from a bay in the South Pacific island nation of Fiji, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot psittason.  It's called Momi Bay, and it's on the western shore of Viti Levu - the largest island in the archipelago and the home of about two-thirds of Fiji's permanent population.  Momi is one of a series of bays which line the island's western coast, the largest of which is Nadi Bay to its north.  The bay is accessible via the Queens Road, a route which rings Viti Levu and connects its cities and towns.
