A normal weekend in Switzerland

I went to Switzerland to meet with my friends Laurine and Damien who moved there. They were DJing on Saturday so it was a good reason to go there and maybe do one day of snowboarding. I wasn't planning on flying on the mountains, but after our lunch, we felt a bit heavy and decided to take it easy. We went back down to the car and took the quadcopter with me on the slopes. The scary bit for me was to fly this new rebuilt version of the SX218 with a 20x20 while I actually didn't even test it! I just did a hover test in my living room the night before my flight to Switzerland. The first scene you see in the video, when I'm going all the way up to the top of the mountain is actually the first flight I have done with the quadcopter. As I took off, I sent it straight to the top. PIDs and filter were on default, the air was thin, hence the prop washes you might notice. I thought to myself: "Will I ever learn to do things a bit less risky to not lose my quad?". But the excitement of following them on skis took over. It was also the first time I followed someone on skis. My only experience to follow something was few months back trying to follow some BMX bikers but that was a fail I think and the week before when I followed my friend's drone, see previous video "The return of the Neato". This flight only last 2 minutes, I went up and down twice, following them one after the other. I got better on the second time while following Damien. The second scene in this video was in the woods. By looking at Blackbird FPV videos, I was always jealous of these tall trees he flies. Unfortunately, the spot he usually flies is one hour drive from Lausanne (where my friends live) and we couldn't go there, so we found some other empty woods. I did two batteries there and what you watch on the video is the end of the second battery. At some point I hit hard a tree but recover so I keep on going. However, you can notice that I got a part of the tree stuck onto the GoPro lens haha. The powerloops were too good to delete them so I kept them anyway. The last scene on the video is super special. That was shot at the end of the skiing day. Because I only spent half of a Lipo on the slope, I had to empty it and maybe use some more. So my friends took me to the lake for some beers at sunset. Seeing that the drone flew well and I didn't have any issue, I decided to take my chance and fly over the lake. I started to fly near the coast, and then we saw doing some paddling far away. I don't know what I thought but I decided to get there. Now what the last shot of the video doesn't tell you is... I've lost the video fpv feed when I reached it. Total black out for 5 seconds. That was so sketchy and scary. During these 5 seconds I thought: "Here you go, Switzerland already took one quad away from you, now it's another one. You pushed too far, you play with danger and that's what you get". I usually switch off the arm button when I lose video connection, but if I would have done that there, it would just fell into the water and it would have been gone forever. Instead, I just remembered how I was, use my muscle memory to perform a 180 degree yaw turn, throttle up and pitch up again to bring it back. After few seconds of darkness, I retrieve some of the video, and then it came back to normal. My heart was racing so fast! I thought I was going to die from a heart attack. As I came back, I landed and I realised I wasn't the only one stressed about the situation, both my friends were. It was a massive relief. But you know... this is the reason why we fly and we love it: emotions. It gives use emotions and through these machines, it makes us feel humans. That's the beauty of FPV, that's why we love it so much. Thanks for reading all this if you did. I don't expect you to, but if you did, that's cool :)
