AirVūz News: World of Drones 04/05/21

Published 04/05/2021 07:42

Welcome to the “World of Drones” your weekly news show for all things drone related. We’re kicking this week off with a few stories of drones being used for good.

A couple stranded on the side of a canyon in Utah were rescued with the help of a drone. The couple that was hiking in Weber County called 911 after they were not comfortable coming back down the canyon due to the dangerous snow and ice that had blocked their path. The Weber County Sheriff’s Office soon deployed a DJI Matrice 300 RTK with a Zenmuse H20T camera attached and found the couple within moments. It was determined that a helicopter extraction would be necessary and the couple was safely rescued.

We’ve got another drone rescue story coming to us from China’s Tianyuan District. A woman with intellectual and mental disabilities wandered off and became lost while picking tea with her sister. The tea field was surrounded by thick vegetation, making it difficult for an on-foot search. After 3 days of looking, the Tianyuan District Emergency Rescue Volunteer Team put a DJI Matrice 300 in the air and found the woman within 20 minutes with the use of thermal technology. The ground team was then sent out to rescue her and luckily she was brought back to safety in good health.

These are just 2 examples of the many drone rescues that happen each year. To date, according to DJI’s Drone Rescues Map, drones have helped save 575 lives around the globe.

There has been another record-breaking drone show! This one put on by Hyundai’s luxury vehicle brand Genesis to announce their arrival in China. The car brand used 3,281 drones to create its logo over Shanghai’s skyline which set the new Guinness World Record for “The Most Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) airborne simultaneously.” This tops the previous record held by Shenzhen Camoda Intelligent Control Technology which used 3,051 drones back in September.

Now it’s time to announce the final Top 5 drone videos from March and name one the ‘Drone Video of the Week’:

“Iceland, to be continued” - AndriThor

Former ‘Drone Video of the Week’ and ‘Drone Video of the Month’ winner, AndriThor, brings us another breathtaking film from Iceland. This one features sweeping views of landscapes and cinematic shots of architecture. Since the film’s title is, “to be continued,” we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.

“Winter Moments” - Akos Kovacs

This is the first ‘Drone Video of the Week’ nomination for content creator Akos Kovacs, who has been uploading incredible aerial footage from Germany to AirVuz for almost a year now. His latest film shows Germany transformed into a snow covered winter wonderland.

“Kerlingafjoll Cinematic Video” -

_mishamartin

Multiple time ‘Drone Video of the Week’ nominee, _mishamartin, flew his DJI Mavic 2 Pro high above Iceland’s Kerlingarfjöll mountain range. This remote highland area looks truly stunning from a drone’s perspective.

“Central Coast | Big Sur, CA | Aerial & Timelapse 4K” - FrameworkFilms

Another former ‘‘Drone Video of the Week’ and ‘Drone Video of the Month’ winner, FrameworkFilms, takes his signature aerial timelapse work to the scenic Highway 1 in California. Flying along the coast and above beautiful Big Sur, this aerial film will leave you wanting to plan a road trip out west.

“Dutch Winter With the Sound of Singing Ice” - Het bloklandcoptersteam

Drone pilot, Het bloklandcoptersteam, is back after a year with this fun aerial film out of the Netherlands. Capturing a century old Dutch tradition of ice skating on the frozen rivers and canals, this is a great all around film.

And the ‘Drone Video of the Week’ and winner of the $250 cash prize is… AndriThor with “Iceland, to be continued.” The views in the “Land of Fire and Ice” are tough to beat, but the production value behind this film was what set it apart. For winning our weekly contest, this video will now move on to our ‘Drone Video of the Month’ contest where it could win an additional $500.

A new ‘Drone Video of the Month’ winner will be crowned on Wednesday. Make sure to tune into the episode that will air exclusively on AirVuz.com because we have a special announcement regarding a big giveaway for our April ‘Drone Video of the Month’ winner.

Then on Thursday, Jacob and Phluxy will be back to pick a ‘FPV Video of the Month’ from all of the ‘Pilots to Watch’ in March.
