In breaking news today, Amazon has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to move forward with its Prime Air delivery drone service. This will give Amazon the ability to fly drones beyond line of sight to deliver packages under Part 135 of the FAA’s regulations. While Amazon has said it’s not ready to start drone delivery quite yet, they are still actively flying and refining  the technology.

Wish you could keep your drone up in the air

Longer? If you are a Mavic 2 owner you may be in luck. Singapore-based drone accessories company, Volarious, created a product called “V-Scout” which converts your DJI Mavic 2 into a drone that can fly tethered to a box that mounted vehicle, all while capturing data over an extended period of time and over a large geographical area. Volarious can think of many applications for the V-Scout, whether it’s collecting data, monitoring a situation or filming large crowds. The V-Scout auto-unreels up to 60 meters of line while continuously maintaining the correct amount of tension. All of that means that the Mavic 2 can stay in the air as long as you’d like, while you’re monitoring it of course.

Attention all Australian drone pilots… Soon you will need to register your drones with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). If you are flying for work your drone will have to be registered regardless of its weight, if you are flying for fun all drones weighing over 250 grams will need to be registered. Registration opens on September 30th even though the new regulation won’t go into effect until May of 2022. All drone pilots will also need an aviation reference number (ARN) and an operator accreditation that can be obtained by passing a test.
