Mount Bjelasica, Montenegro Location & Landscape: Located in central-eastern Montenegro (near Kolašin, Mojkovac, and Berane). Unlike many of Montenegro’s rugged limestone peaks, Bjelasica features smooth, rolling green slopes, dense forests, and volcanic soil rich in flora and water. Biogradska Gora National Park: A huge part of the mountain is protected under this national park, home to one of Europe’s last remaining primeval forests and the famous glacial Biogradsko Lake. Glacial Lakes ("Mountain Eyes"): Beyond Biogradsko, it features six stunning glacial lakes (Gorske oči), including Pešića Lake and Ursulovačko Lake. Winter Sports: Bjelasica is Montenegro’s premier skiing destination, hosting the popular ski centers Kolašin 1450 and Kolašin 1600. Summer & Ecotourism: Excellent for hiking, mountain biking, off-roading, and eco-tourism. You can visit traditional seasonal mountain huts (katuns) to taste authentic local cheese (lisnati sir) and traditional Montenegrin food. Highest Peak: Crna Glava (Black Head) at 2,139 meters above sea level.
