BADGES THIS VIDEO HAS EARNED:

Every winter, whales return to Baja California Sur.

This February, I spent some time observing and recording gray whales and humpback whales, along with Baja’s dramatic sunsets.

The first part of the video focuses on gray whales — calm, gentle giants. This year, La Niña altered their usual movement patterns, and I encountered gray whales far south of their typical lagoons, including unexpected locations and even in the Sea of Cortez.

The second part features humpback whales.Calves learning to breach, adults repeatedly jumping, and males displaying mating behavior — slapping fins and tails on the surface. The energy was constant and powerful.

All footage was captured with full respect for wildlife, observing natural behavior at a safe distance, using optical zoom and post-crop only.
