Bando San Francisco 🔋🌴 Potrero Power Plant

This 206 megawatt, 8-story, natural gas-powered generator, and its smokestack were Potrero Power Plant’s primary generator, also known as “Unit 3”. It was the last remaining fossil fuel power plant in San Francisco and, in its prime, the plant supplied approximately 1/3 of the City’s peak electrical needs. The original plant was constructed circa 1890 by San Francisco Gas Light, the company that would later become known as Pacific Gas and Electric. The City permanently shut down the plant in January of 2011, marking the end of over a century’s worth of chemical and thermal pollution in San Francisco Bay.
