Bannow Island | Bannow Church | Co. Wexford | Ireland

The name Bannow Island is deceptive, because an island it is no longer. The sea has withdrawn from between the former island and the “mainland” by constant sanding and nowadays a road leads over to the “island”. The advantages of the former island with a beautiful sandy beach and a very quiet location remain, however. At Bannow Island, the ruins can still be seen of the 13th-century Norman Romanesque parish church of St Mary, originally impropriated to the monks of Canterbury.
