The glorious Ben Bulben overlooking Sligo coast. A flat topped 'nunatek' rock formation. Its name is an anglicisation of 'Binn Ghulbain', with Binn meaning peak, and Ghulbain most likely referring to Conal Gulban, a son of the semi-legendary Niall of the Nine Hostages (the 5th century original source of the surname 'O' Neil). It is according to tradition the legendary hunting ground of the Fianna, ancient warriors of the 3rd century. It has also been the site of War of Independence battles from the 1920s.
