Located in the southwestern slope of the Cordillera de Chilla, at 1910 MASL, with 148 m in height, it is one of the most striking attractions of Huertas parish belonging to the Zaruma canton. Its name comes from the words of the Kichwa language, "Wayku" = Ravine and "Kuchuna" = to divide or to cut, that is, "The divided Ravine", probably in relation to its multiple waterfalls that come from the top of the mountain named “The Table” where the Waykuchuma stream is born. The cascade is surrounded by a remnant of native vegetation corresponding to the humid subtropical forest of the slopes of the western Cordillera of the Andes, characterized by a combination of flora and fauna species from the high and low areas of the Ecuadorian western tropics. In the upper part of the cascade and hidden among the dense vegetation are the archeological ruins of Wayquichuma. Quilico Drones thanks the kindness of the Jaramillo - Espinosa family for allowing us to know such a magical place.
