While Mexico has a long eastern coastline on the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, its most popular eastern beach areas lie along a relatively short stretch of the northeastern side of the Yucatan Peninsula.  The development of the area began with Cancun in the 1970's, and in subsequent decades the development spread south.  In this drone video by The Solo Traveler ORD, you'll get an aerial view of both Cancun and Playa del Carmen, the most popular beach area on the area south of Cancun which is often referred to as the Mayan Riviera.
