Carrigafoyle Castle, Kerry

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

Of the many chapters in Ireland's centuries-long struggle for independence from England, one of the most well-known is the siege of Carrigafoyle Castle.  In 1579, an Irish nobleman named Gerald FitzGerald, 15th Earl of Desmond had initiated what is known as the Second Desmond Rebellion.  Located near Ballylongford in County Kerry, Carrigafoyle fell to English forces in a two-day siege that began on Easter Sunday of 1580.   The famous fortress is on display from above in this drone video by Hartwell Photography.
