EC Szombierki - an old power plant in the Bytom city, Silesia region in Poland. The power plant was opened on November 29, 1920. The first devices that started work were four Babcock boilers and a WUMAG turbine set with a capacity of 12.8 MW. In the following years, 19 Steinmiller, Babcock-Wilcox and Babcock boilers were put into operation, as well as four WUMAG and GMA WUMAG turbine sets. In 1925, a four-sided clock by Siemens und Halske, coupled with 54 clocks operating in the plant, was installed on the tower of the power plant. During the best period in the history of "Szombierek" - around 1930 - over 900 people worked in the plant. It was then one of the largest power plants in Europe [footnote needed]. In 1937, the highest of the three chimneys of the power plant, 120 meters high, was erected, while in the years 1939–1944 it reached a maximum power of 100 MW.
