Eschenberg is located south of the centre of Winterthur. It borders the Töss district to the west and the Seen district to the east. About half of the actual forest area belongs to the districts of Stadt and Mattenbach, to the north of the forest area. A small part to the east belongs to the Seen district. In the south, the Eschenberg slopes steeply down to the Töss, which it borders in the south. The Eschenberg, which covers about 8.5 km², has a relatively broad ridge plateau without major irregularities, apart from a few small stream depressions. Important streams contributing to the drainage of the forest are the Hintere Chrebsbach (catchment area of 1.68 km²) and the Steintobelbach (1.21 km²). In addition, there are many other small streams in the north that also drain the Eschenberg towards the Mattenbach.
