Flower city Why Xalapa is called "City of Flowers" is a very, very old story, to be precise from 1804. It was when the Baron of Humboldt visited the then Villa de Xalapa on February 10 of that year, and due to the abundance of flowers in the region, he baptized it with the name "City of Flowers". Due to its climate and topography, Xalapa is characterized by having among its vegetation the misophilic mountain forest, where we can find trees with heights ranging from 14 to 35 meters. The trunks of the trees can reach 2 meters in diameter and can be both evergreen and deciduous (losing their leaves in the cold months of the year), so that the forest is never without greenery.
