Flying in Kinderdijk
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
One of the major natural dangers facing any non-arid plains area is flooding. This is particularly so if there is a nearby river. As a country on the Great Plain of Europe and crossed by numerous rivers, the Dutch developed some of the most sophisticated flood control techniques the world has ever seen. Perhaps the best place to see this is in the area around Kinderdijk, a small town in South Holland near the confluence of several rivers. See Kinderdijk from above, compliments of contributor Pepinair.

The mills of Kinderdijk are located near Dordrecht. Nineteen beautiful mills, built in 1740, are part of a large water management system to prevent flooding. They are now the symbol of Dutch water management, and in 1997 they were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Music: CARLOS ESTELLA - Ethereal Epic Dream
