On my return trip to Melbourne from Sydney, I stopped at Gundagai in New South Wales (NSW) which is a small town 4 hours from Sydney. It is apparently popular with writers as it is a typical Australian country town. I visited the Heritage Railway Station and the delightful lady who manages it allowed me to film the train station with my drone. She said quite a few people film it with drones although sometimes they get it stuck in the trees. I took extra care and did my best to capture the beauty of this historical station, train track on the grass plains and town. I was told by someone there that the original town was located on the grass plains but 80-100 people died when it flash flooded one night on the 24th June 1852. It was Australia's deadliest flood. They then moved the town to higher ground around the grass flood plains. See link below for more information. I hope you like this video and thanks for watching, Brett - Gizmo Drones More Info: Explore the rich cultural heritage of Gundagai, a picturesque country town in the beautiful Riverina. You’ll find the famous Dog on the Tuckerbox Pioneer Monument, as well as a rich architectural, colonial and indigenous history, great fishing, a thrilling rodeo and boutique wineries. The town's main industries, unchanged since the nineteenth century, are sheep and cattle with a healthy dose of passing trade from people moving between Sydney and Melbourne. History: In the middle of the night on 24 June 1852 a catastrophic flood swept through the New South Wales town of Gundagai. The water rose quickly to become a raging torrent that swept whole buildings away and left people clinging for their lives in trees. Only three buildings were left standing when the water receded. Between 80 and 100 people died, and the disaster remains the deadliest flood in Australia’s recorded history.
