It was built by the 1st Earl of Kent in the 13th Century, then dismantled for the value of its stone in the late 1500’s. It is now owned by English Heritage and is listed as a a Grade 1 building.

Flying FPV over Henry III's old crib. Hadleigh Castle is a ruined fortification in the English county of Essex, overlooking the Thames Estuary from south of the town of Hadleigh. Built after 1215 during the reign of Henry III by Hubert de Burgh, the castle was surrounded by parkland and had an important economic and defensive role.
