Check out these amazing drone views of the ancient mining district of Las Médulas in Spain, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot Timearth.  It's located near the town of Ponferrada in the province of León in the northwestern part of the country.  Beginning in the 1st century AD, the Roman occupiers of the Iberian Peninsula began using a hydraulic mining technique which involved pumping large amounts of water under the ore mountains via aqueducts.  It went on to become the largest gold mining operation in the Roman Empire.
