The main National Park area is Maiala that means 'quiet place' in the dialect of the original aboriginal Kamilaroi people who were the earliest know settlers to the region. Most visitors are surprised to find the stands of native rainforest so close to Brisbane; tall trees with huge buttresses, palms and ferns as well as the ever present array of tropical birds and parrots; quite an unbelievable place! The regular motorcyclists all know the wonder of the fantastic roadside splendor of towering rainforest trees, the accompanying mist and cooler crisp climate. Mount Glorious is a beautiful natural hill top that offers four small cafes, some spectacular forest walks as well as several BBQ areas set in rolling parkland. Quite a remarkable destination that is only 45 minutes from the Brisbane CBD!
