MV Captayannis Shipwreck Mavic
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Prepare to be amazed by this amazing drone video of a well known modern-era shipwreck in Scotland's Firth of Clyde, the great estuary on Scotland's western coast. The ship is the MV Captayannis, a 120 meter (just under 400 ft.) Greek-flagged ship which was carrying sugar to the port of Greenock. She sank in a storm in January, 1974, and was never removed. In this drone video by contributor Highlandroner, you can get a bird's eye view of this wreck, which has since become an unofficial bird sanctuary.

On the evening of 27 January 1974, a severe storm caused the vessel to drag her anchor while she was waiting at the Tail of the Bank to deliver sugar to the James Watt Dock in Greenock. Her captain ordered the engines to be started with the intention of running for the more sheltered waters of the Gareloch but before she could be brought to power she drifted onto the taut anchor chains of the BP tanker British Light. The tanker suffered no damage but her anchor chains holed the sugar boat below the waterline, allowing water to pour in.
