Mamaev Kurgan Monument, Volgograd

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

The Mamaev Kurgan is a hill overlooking the city of Volgagrad in Southern Russia.  Atop it sits one of the most important symbols of Russia's Great Patriotic War with Germany, known to most of the world as World War II.  It's a statue called The Motherland Calls, and it's one of the world's tallest.  Dedicated in 1967, it commemorates the titanic struggle that transpired here in 1942-3 when the city (then known as Stalingrad) was the site of one of the bloodiest battles in history.
